I don't think pigs can comprehend these issues. [09 Aug 2008|11:35pm]
[ mood | amused ]

The best random Yahoo! Answers question I've encountered in a while:

"Do a pig have to watch his sodium intake?"

That probably would have amused me even without the incorrect grammar. That said, it probably is unhealthy for a pig to take in too much sodium.

An earthquake woke me up a few minutes ago, and now I'm too rattled to get back to sleep.

(Note: My first thought was that we were having a tornado, because that is way more frequent here than earthquakes.)

honest answers to the most recent lesmiz poll [14 Dec 2007|01:42am]

What kinds of Les Mis fic do you like the most?
Hilariously badly written, preferably with funny misspellings and wildly off characters. Also, any story that features Javert having sex with mermaids. The only good fan fiction, after all, is comically bad fan fiction.

What kinds of Les Mis fic make you want to smack some sense into the author?
I don't like parody stories in which the author portrays Javert as being really nice. The worst stories, of course, are slightly rewritten, boring takes on the characters thoughts as they die. I also hate non-funny stories in which the characters are all in a modern high school.

What would you like to see explored in fanfiction that's rarely or never been written?
How the story would be different if Valjean was an elephant. Oh, and something in which all the characters have superpowers. And a Phantom of the Opera crossover fic in which "Cossette" and "Roule" destroy true love forever.

Having watched Phantom of the Opera and the entire first season of Pokemon this week, it is clear to me that someone should write a crossover fic in which the phantom is really a Gastly.

I have received the web cam/microphone/speakers device I ordered with some of my Dr. Pepper points, and I can finally post videos of myself singing directly into the camera on youtube. I will ask that people please not comment if they don't have something nice to say - it's not like I forced them to watch it. Plus, I probably have a cold and am hungover and tired and therefore don't sound as good as I could have if only there had been time to wait before filming.

Get out of my way, Christine. I have candles to light. [03 Jul 2007|10:07pm]

I watched the Phantom of the Opera movie musical for the first time last night, and it was definitely the funny kind of bad. In all fairness, Emmy Rossum's singing, while weak and unimpressive, was less awful than I anticipated. I can see where thirteen-year-old girls who had never heard another person singing those songs might think she was good. Her acting... well, she clearly forgot to act. It happens. Gerard Butler, on the other hand, was hilariously bad. His singing voice sounded like the speaking voice of Quasimodo from a one-dollar Hunchback of Notre Dame cartoon I watched a few weeks ago*.

Notes:
1. What's with all the candles? Based on my experience with them during the lengthy power outage we had this winter, Gerik spends much of his time replacing/relighting candles and cleaning the film of grey soot off his mind-blowingly awesome Christine wax figure.
2. Why would dead Christine want the stupid monkey thing?
3. I thought it was nice that the Phantom appears to have given Carlotta a decent role in his Mary Sue opera.
4. I laughed out loud at the end when Christine returned the ring. What an awesome way to kick the crazy dude while he's down.

While I enjoyed the movie on the all - it was a pretty movie with plenty of unintentional laughs - I just don't see how it charmed so many teenaged girls into writing so much fan fiction. Seriously, WTF?

* - Not the Disney version. It was a short, dry, mostly faithful retelling of the story that sort of copped out and didn't kill everyone off at the end. I can't imagine why the makers thought this would appeal to anyone, especially the children it was apparently created for.

I'm pretty excited about The Phantom of Manhattan. I haven't read the book myself, but I've heard good things. Plus, ALW seems pretty on the ball these days.

After they finish wasting their time on this Pirate Queen crap, Boublil & Schonberg should get on adapting Cosette. Perhaps with a song about nipples? Also, they could take a little artistic license and have Valjean's ghost in it. And nudity! And Grantaire could have a guitar in flashbacks.

1. We got 10" of snow here over the past 24+ hours, which is the most snow I can ever remember falling in one weather event. This has resulted in an unprecedented two Millikin snow days, just like what they were hoping for in the movie Snow Day (without having to kill Chris Elliott).

2. With campus being closed, this is now the best Valentine's Day ever.

3. Here is a picture of my cat studying microbiology.

I [heart] Chris Hansen [03 Feb 2007|03:35pm]

If I was going to do a To Catch a Predator parody, I would have him busting Spiderman. And Chris Hansen would say, "You're supposed to be protecting people from harm," and he'd be really smug. And Spiderman would talk about all the pressure he's under with being a superhero, and then he'd get tasered.

This is clearly much funnier in my head. If only I had actors handy so I could direct it and put it on the youtube, everyone could see.
